There are several properties at risk of flooding within the area between Breakspear Road South and the River Pinn from surface water and fluvial sources. The upstream catchment includes a significant area identified as land required as part of the HS2 project and the Council is working to ensure that works proposed by HS2 provide benefits to the wider community.
Consultants have carried out a feasibility study to investigate the feasibility of alleviating flood risk by potentially reusing material from the HS2 tunnelling to create bunds and other measures such as Natural Flood Management. HS2 work in the area is currently at early construction, earth works and utility works stage with an estimated completion date of December 2023. For more information, please see this webpage: https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/main-site-activities-in-the-breakspear-road-area/
